How to Create a Windows 8 To Go USB Drive from Windows 7

A copy of Imagex.exe from the Windows 7 Automated Installation Kit installed on Windows 7.

ImageX can be found in C:\Program Files\Windows AIK\Tools\amd64 or C:\Program Files\Windows AIK\Tools\x86.

run diskpart, and command:

list disk
select disk xx (where xx is USB drive disknumber)
clean
create partition primary
format fs=ntfs quick
active
exit

Copy sources\install.wim from Windows 8 ISO.

imagex.exe /apply install.wim 1 f:\ (where f: is drive letter of your USB drive)

bcdboot.exe f:\windows /s f: (where f: is drive letter of your USB drive)

Done.

Patience, it’s not really a ‘Live CD‘, but to a USB flash drive works in Windows.
